At Plachta, Murphy & Associates it is our mission to promote our clients’ business and personal security through responsive and proactive legal expertise. We are a full-service law firm with over 50 years of combined legal expertise in all areas of the law. Our offices are located in Grand Rapids with an additional office in Holland. We don’t strive to be the biggest law firm in West Michigan, but rather to be a law firm that provides one-on-one personalized service of the highest quality for our business and personal clients.
In addition to the traditional areas of business and personal law, in response to client needs we have developed unique specialty client practice groups including Bankruptcy and Back Tax Resolution. Because times are tough in Michigan, many of our services are billed on a flat fee basis or include an initial free office conference. Please call us at 616-458-3994 to inquire how our team can help you accomplish your legal goals and objectives.
We are a debt relief agency and we help people file for bankruptcy under the Bankruptcy Code. Our West Michigan bankruptcy attorneys and paralegal work with our tax resolution specialists to help clients navigate these decisions to bring about the best possible option: a fresh start. Call Amanda DeChamplain at 616-458-3994 to schedule a consultation.
Bankruptcy
The goal of bankruptcy is simple: to give the filer relief from the burden of debt so they can start over. Although it may not feel like it at the time, bankruptcy can sometimes be the most responsible option. However, the process of deciding what and how to file can be difficult – while bankruptcy affords debtors the opportunity to sort out their financial affairs without having creditors hassle them, there may be negative credit and other ramifications.

ASK AMANDA
Q. What Chapter 7 Bankruptcy debts may be discharged?
A. The policy behind bankruptcy law is to allow an honest debtor to start anew without financial burden. In Chapter 7, most debts are dischargeable including medical bills, loans, credit card purchases and cash advances, and many judgments. However there are some exceptions. An individual contemplating Chapter 7 must know what is dischargeable and what is not; otherwise valuable assets can be lost.
